What We Do
At Partners in Development and Center for Holistic Transformation (PICOT), we are dedicated to fostering sustainable development and uplifting communities across Northern Uganda. We focus on addressing the critical needs of vulnerable populations, particularly smallholder farmers, women, youth, and marginalized groups, through integrated programs in agriculture, health, education, environment, and governance. Our holistic approach ensures that no issue is addressed in isolation, empowering communities to transform their lives for the long term.
Our Impact
Over the years, PICOT has reached thousands of individuals and families across Northern Uganda, improving their quality of life and providing them with the tools to build a better future. Our integrated approach ensures that we address the root causes of poverty, inequality, and environmental degradation, creating lasting change in the communities we serve.
Livelihood & Agriculture
Improving livelihoods is a critical step toward holistic development. Our focus on sustainable agriculture and rural development helps communities become more resilient to economic and environmental challenges. By integrating climate-smart agricultural practices and enhancing market access, we ensure that families not only survive but thrive. This approach strengthens the economic foundation upon which broader development is built.
Environment & Climate Change Action
Environmental sustainability is a cornerstone of holistic development. At PICOT, we recognize that protecting and restoring the environment is crucial for the long-term well-being of communities. Our projects in agroforestry, renewable energy, and climate adaptation not only address immediate ecological challenges but also contribute to sustainable livelihoods and improved health outcomes. By integrating environmental action with our other thematic areas, we ensure that communities are resilient to the impacts of climate change and environmental degradation.
Community Health Promotion
Good health is fundamental to holistic transformation. PICOT’s health promotion efforts, particularly in the areas of HIV/AIDS prevention, malaria reduction, and sexual reproductive health, Nutrition and WASH are designed to improve both individual and community well-being. Our health initiatives are interconnected with our work in livelihoods and education, recognizing that healthy individuals are better able to participate in economic activities and pursue educational opportunities, creating a virtuous cycle of empowerment.
Education & Skills Development
Education and skills development are transformative tools for holistic growth. Through our focus on education, vocational training, and youth empowerment, we provide individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to take charge of their own development. Our integrated approach ensures that education goes hand-in-hand with improved health, livelihoods, and governance, enabling communities to break the cycle of poverty and achieve sustained progress.
Community Governance, Accountability & Human Rights
Holistic transformation requires empowered communities that actively participate in governance and decision-making processes. At PICOT, we create platforms for community members to engage in governance, ensuring that their voices are heard and their rights protected. Our focus on governance, accountability, and human rights reinforces our work in health, education, and livelihoods by promoting transparency and justice, which are essential for equitable development.
How We Work
Our approach is rooted in community participation. We engage with local leaders, government agencies, and development partners to design and implement projects that address the specific needs of each community. By involving community members at every stage—from planning to implementation to evaluation—we ensure that our projects are locally owned and sustainable.
At PICOT, we are committed to creating an inclusive, equitable, and sustainable future for all. Through our programs, we aim to inspire communities to transform their lives and achieve lasting development.
